Water into Wine

11.26.2008

The Bite:
imageEmpty wine rack got you wishing you could turn tap into vino? Miracles do happen, but maybe just walk over to Bridge Urban Winery, a tasting bar and wine shop that specializes in wine from Long Island's North Fork and Bridge Vineyards. Grab a glass and order up some locally sourced grub, like Potato Medallions made from North Fork spuds or the Old Chatham Bleu Cheese plate (which tastes great with BUW's vanilla-y private label Merlot) - or just get a bottle to go. Drinking locally grown wine instead of, say, Napa vino, means conserving fuel and cutting CO2. This tipsy temple's also got live jazz every weekend, as well as views of the Billyburg Bridge. Amen.
Wanna Try:
Bridge Urban Winery, 20 Broadway b/t Kent Ave. and Dunham Pl., Williamsburg (718-384-2800). Bridge Vineyards Private Label flight, $14. Live jazz Fridays and Saturdays, 3 pm–11 pm.

Cocktail Fact

The United States imports more wine from Australia than any other country.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters switch up two bottles of Napa Valley Chard with two bottles of Long Island Cab, it'll have the same CO2-reducing effect as taking nine cars off the road for a year.
