Eco Salon and Spa

In the Wink of an Eye

05.27.2009

The Bite:
Sandal season have you searching for a quick pedi? Wink Eco Beauty Bar'll have you in, out, and primped in no time - sans smelly fumes (its polishes and other pamper stuff contain no formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, or toluene). Sip on cucumber-infused water at this chill Prospect Park spa while getting your 'tips painted with colorful (think summery corals to floozy reds), nontoxic Zoya polish. Other quickies: a Green Glama Express 30-min facial with Farmaesthetics organic skin care or (just in time for bikinis) veggie-based waxing.
Why Care?:
Getting lacquered up with products minus the "toxic trio” - formaldehyde, phthalates, and toluene - is better for the planet, your health, and the livelihood of nail salon workers.
We were in a rush and opted for the Wink Signature Manicure (with soothing hot towels, a scrub, massage, and nail and cuticle shaping), but the 75-minute Tandem Massage (two masseuses = four hardworkin' hands) is on our wish list for next time.
Wanna Try:
Wink Eco Beauty Bar, 602 Vanderbilt Ave., Brooklyn (718-230-3443). Wink Signature Manicure/Pedicure, $15/$25; full leg and bikini combo wax, $65.

Cocktail Fact

The innuendo "wink wink, nudge nudge" likely originated in a Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketch.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters use five bottles of nail polish free of cancer-linked chems instead of the conventional stuff, we'll keep 250 martini glasses full of toxic polish from polluting the planet (and our bodies).
