SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 NY Biters eat one locally grown apple every day instead of one that's shipped long-distance, we'll avert the weight of nearly 23,000 subway cars in CO2 every year.

COCKTAIL FACT

The food for an average meal travels 1,400 mi to get to your plate.

Farm it Out

The Bite

Trouble keeping fresh in your fridge? Let someone else keep you stocked instead. Join a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program through NYC's Just Food CSA, and farm-fresh fruits and veggies will come to you. How it works: Just choose a drop-off location near you, sign up online or via phone, then pick up your weekly box of produce starting in June. You'll save yourself the trouble of, well, farming 'em yourself, and avert CO2 from shipping goods long-distance. There are 50-plus farms in the NYC network, but they're selling out quickly (11,000 NYers participated last year), so sign up soon before it's all farmed out.
