IDEAL BITE MUST DO CANADIAN ECO-LIVING TIPS: COUNTRY’S ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD IS POOR, BUT COMMITMENT IS HIGH
Brooklyn, NY and Bozeman, MT – May 15, 2006 – Ideal Bite, Inc. sees growing demand for a Canadian version of its popular daily eco-living email tips. “A sassier shade of green,” Ideal Bite offers environmentally- and socially-conscious tips geared for those who want to live green, but aren’t sure where to begin.
Since day one, Ideal Bite has received numerous emails from Canadians requesting that the media company launch a daily tip customized to Canadian issues and interests, as current tips are US-focused.
The company is investigating the possibility of providing a Canadian version of its daily tip after being inundated with demands, catalyzed largely by a feature in METRO TORONTO in March. Ideal Bite’s founders, eco-preneurs Heather Stephenson and Jennifer Boulden, wrote journalist Nina Dragicevic, “are working to make green living not only easy, but fun.”
Canada ranks second to last out of the 29 OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries in terms of environmental performance across 25 environmental indicators. Studies, such as a recent report by the David Suzuki Foundation, suggest a “Canadian Environmental Paradox”: value and respect for the environment among Canadians is high, but few are willing to make lifestyle changes to address these issues.
Canada's environmental performance is among the poorest in the world, and it has not improved over the past decade. At the same time, improvement doesn’t seem to be a priority. "The Canada we see in this report does not reflect the one we hold in our hearts," Suzuki said. "Canadians expect more and they expect better. We should be outraged that we are among the worst in the industrialized world."
Since its launch in June 2005, Ideal Bite’s weekday tips have attracted 45,000 opt-in subscribers, and subscriber growth continues to expand by 22 percent per month. Ideal Bite’s success lies in its sassy, non-preachy attitude as well as its pledge to help followers save time by finding the best products, save money through energy efficiencies, and be eco-hip with what’s new and cool, all the while building a community where Biters can “dish” about the day’s tip, share additional tips, and be entertained with small, ideal bites of environmentalism.
Canadians such as Ron Topham are emailing words of support to Ideal Bite: “I absolutely love your website! Great information, and I like your realism and approach to sharing. Thank you from Canada!” Ideal Bite would like to meet the demand, and plans to do so following a thorough exploration of the company’s options.
