Ideal Bite Staff is Taking the Day Off on Earth Day
Results in from recent subscriber poll indicate that big changes happen when every day is Earth Day
Bozeman, MT and San Francisco, CA - April 18, 2007 - Instead of focusing on making a big impact on just one day out of the year, the staffers at Ideal Bite like to think that every day is Earth Day. After all, small changes add up to BIG results, so why not sprinkle our efforts throughout the whole year? Since they work hard at saving the earth all year long, Earth Day is a good day to kick back, relax and read the latest results from our subscriber survey... illuminating the impact of taking small bites of the big green apple each day.
Results of our subscribers implementing these 10 popular tips over the past year:
1.
Beat SUV-related Guilt.
Want to make less of an impact? Purchase carbon
offsets for your auto through services like CarbonFund and NativeEnergy.
They'll calculate the CO2 that your car is responsible for creating and you, in
turn, offset that CO2 by funding
projects like wind farms that combat global warming. Last year, at least 7,729
Biters offset their yearly CO2 emissions, having the same effect as moving 22,480
drivers of SUVs to hybrids for a year.

2. Check Your Tire Pressure.
Keep your tires
inflated to the correct PSI - it will extend
the average life of your tires by 15% and increase your gas mileage by 2 mpg.
In the past year, at least 11,973 Biters kept their tires properly inflated,
saving enough gasoline to drive a hybrid car around the entire Earth.

3. Mmmmm, Organic Beeeeer!
Go for organic
beer: it's pure, tasty, and free of
noxious chemicals and pesticides. In the past year, at least 11,305 Biters
kept the equivalent of 42 bathtubs full of pesticides out of the waste stream
by drinking organic, rather than non-organic, beer.

4. Go Veggie - One Day a Week.
Becoming a full-time
veg-head not your thing? No worries: just pick up a veggie cookbook and try
cooking a meal without meat once a week. You'll be surprised at how easy it is.
At least 8,571 Biters gave up eating steak just once a week last year, saving enough water to fill 19,462
Olympic-sized swimming pools and the weight of more than 7 humpback whales in
fertilizer.

5. Support Your Local Farmers
Join a CSA. CSA stands
for Community Supported Agriculture - you can buy a "share" in a local farm and
receive a variety of produce once a week. You'll get organic, healthy, and tasty
produce while supporting the local farmers - it doesn't get much better than that.
At least 9,476 Biters purchased their weekly fruit from a local farmers' market
rather than grocery store, having the environmental impact of removing 15 cars
from the road last year.

6. Download Your Music.
Buying music online
is cheaper and avoids the waste caused by CD production, packaging, and
distribution. If you absolutely must
have a CD booklet or limited-edition disc, try to buy it used. Last year, at
least 14,967 Biters bought a CD online, keeping 3,300 lbs of plastic and paper
out of the production stream.

7. Kick the Bottled Water Habit.
Americans use 4 million plastic bottles
every hour - but only 1 in
4 is recycled. Instead of reaching for bottled water, fill up a non-leaching,
lined aluminum SIGG bottle (like the one the Bite Team uses - available from
Ideal Bite's website) with filtered tap water. At least 9,448 Biters gave up
their daily bottled water habit, keeping the weight of a small elephant in
empties out of the waste stream last year.

8. Take Yourself More Lightly.
Conserve
energy and cash by switching all your bulbs to CFLs. Only 10% of the energy
used by an incandescent is converted to light; the rest is lost to heat. In the
past year, at least 9,991 Biters prevented 830 tons of CO2 emissions, the
environmental equivalent of planting 14 acres of forest, simply by switching
one incandescent to a CFL bulb.

9. Just Say "No" to Junk Mail.
Junk mail is more
than just annoying. If everyone in the US was able to
reduce the junk mail they receive each week (average 10.8 pieces per person),
we could save nearly 100 million trees each year. Check out the link below
to get to online forms to remove your name from junk mail lists. Last year, at
least 13,891 Biters removed their names from mailing lists, preventing 388,000
pounds of junk mail paper from going into landfills and preserving 3,300 trees.

10. Set the Lint Bunnies Free.
Cleaning out your
dryer's lint screen after each load is an easy way to save energy and reduce
fire hazard. Believe it or not, a dirty lint filter can cause your dryer to use
as much as 30% more energy. At least 11,871 Biters emptied their lint filters
after every load, saving enough energy over a year to run a dryer up to 790,000
more times.
