Brake the Cycle

04.22.2009

The Bite:
Another day, another grocery schlep. Change it up a bit (and keep your shoulders, um, located…), with North Beach's Bike and Roll. Nab a membership with BaR's Trike and Roll Program, and you can rent its growed-up tricycles (think: cargo trailer) for hour-and-a-half spurts. It's perfect for a big shop at Whole Foods, a fabulous but uncarryable Craigslist score, or if you just want to show your Earth Day support by pushing a humungous bike (rather than a humungous SUV) around town. Take that, routine.
Why Care?:
Doing your errands on bike rather than by car cuts back on CO2 emissions, plus, it makes your ass look better in those jeans.
All of BaR's shopping trikes are equipped with headlights, rear lights, and bells, which, paired with the helmet, looks ridiculous and we kinda loved it.
Wanna Try:
Bike and Roll's Trike and Roll Program, 899 Columbus Ave. (415-229-2000). First month membership, free; month-to-month membership, $25; year membership, $90.

Cocktail Fact

The longest two-seat bicycle in the world, built by engineering students in the Netherlands in 2002, measures 92 feet long.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters bike just one 5-mile trip instead of driving, it'll have the same CO2-reducing effect as taking nearly five cars off the road for a year.

why not suggest to your readers that they do their "big shop" at the local grocery instead of at the giant national chain, if you're going to encourage green living...
Hi, Went to their web page, no sight of any trikes. Isn't online marketing fun? Don't you just love good corporate teamwork?
