Don't Shoe the Messenger...

03.20.2009

The Bite:
…you might just like what we have to say. Heed: Form & Fauna – Mill Valley's supersaucy line of vegan footwear - just released its spring collection with about a dozen colorful new styles. There's everything from bright green and yellow sandals to demure flats, but we're wanting what we prolly don’t need (yet will rationalize somehow): F&F's gorgeous Cleopatras in black (see photo) – a modern, wedged, organic cotton version of the strappy, gold, Grecian classic. F&F crafts all its girly kicks with organic cotton and hemp fabric (smell ya later pesticides…), scrap wood for the heels, and recycled cloth fiber insoles, all held together beautifully with water-based glues, skipping toxic toluene - plus they're 100% cow-free. Message, sent.
Wanna Try:
Form & Fauna shoes, available at Atomic Garden, 5453 College Ave. Oakland. Map It (510-923-0543). Cleopatra shoe, $245.

Cocktail Fact

Popular in the Wild West, the saying "Don't shoot the piano player; he's doing the best he can," stemmed from Shakespeare's "Don't shoot the messenger."

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters opt for a pair of vegan shoes instead of leather ones, we'll save the hides of nearly 1,500 cows.
