The Bite:
In hot pursuit of new clothes? Catch a lineup of pricey but dreamy duds at Vagadu, a by-appointment design shop, where style savant Joui Turandot works bold, angular cuts into soft, curve-hugging gowns, tops, and accessories. Price tags run from a budget-blowing couple hundred for a belt to several thou' for dresses, but we've debated hawking our iPod on Craigslist 'cuz it's tops eco-couture – one-of-a-kinders made with reclaimed fabrics gathered locally, and hand-stitched to haute-chic detail. Peep the Discarded to Divine fund-raiser (details coming soon), where V's ruffles-gone-mad vest (see photo) – made with old blazers from St. Vincent de Paul - will get auctioned off to support the homeless. It'd be a crime to miss it.
Wanna Try:
Vagadu, 1360 Mission St., 2nd Fl. Map It (510-499-3793). Vests, $500.

Cocktail Fact

Based on a story from the Persian collection The Book of One Thousand and One Days, Puccini’s Turandot is the 12th most performed opera in North America.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters buy recycled or repurposed fabric goods for 1 year, we'll keep the weight of almost two BART cars in textile waste outta landfills.
