Feast of Eden

04.03.2009

The Bite:
Wish you had chefs and farm-fresh food at your (Stein)beck and call? Check out CUESA's monthly Moveable Feast, which Trasks a chef and a farmer with creating a four-course meal at a local rest. One Market will host the next event with its own Chef Mark Dommen, along with Chef Erica Holland-Toll of Lark Creek Inn and farmer David Restky of Petaluma's Country Line Harvest. On the menu: Rainbow Swiss Chard Raviolis and Marinated Liberty Duck Breast served with David's caramelized onions and beets (locally produced food reduces farm-to-plate emissions). Eat up - you Cain, and you’re Abel.
Wanna Try:
CUESA's Movable Feast; Apr. 7 at One Market, 1 Market St. Map It (415-777-5577). Dinner, $80/person; $100 w/wine; tickets available online.

Cocktail Fact

Steinbeck's maternal grandfather, Samuel Hamilton (on whom the character of the same name in the novel, East of Eden, was based) holds three patents: a Thrashing-Machine, a Header Spring, and a Plowshare Attachment.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters order a salad prepared using locally grown baby spinach rather than imported spinach, we'll keep the greenhouse gas equivalent of approximately 1,400 round-the-world flights outta Earth's atmosphere.
