Home Run

The Bite:
Strike out last time you tried to deep-clean your pad? Might be time for a pinch hitter. SF's Home Green Home is a new worker-owned and worker-operated cooperative of cleaners, who've teamed up with Seventh Generation to dole out nontoxic, chlorine-free gleams. After a 3 hour spree, we could almost see our reflection in the kitchen sink - and no bleach-y, nose-burning chem after-smell. (And conventional cleaning products are responsible for about 10% of toxic-exposure calls to poison control.) Everyone wins too: You get a cleanup for about the same price as conventional services, the housekeepers make a living wage, and toxic chems stay out of our drains and waterways. It's a hit.
Wanna Try:
Home Green Home, 1500 S. Van Ness Ave. Map It (415-285-5525). Regular cleaning, $140/three-bedroom apt/bimonthly.

Cocktail Fact

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biter households halve the amount of toxic chems we use, we'll avert the weight of 33 shortstops in dangerous waste.
