Culinary Celebration

Hook, Line, and Sinker

The Bite:
Wanna swallow the whole sustainable seafood thing? Monterey Bay Aquarium's Cooking for Solutions goes all the way, with a 2-day bash honoring culinary leaders and celebrating SOL (sustainable-organic-local) food. Dress up for the gala Friday night and have French Laundry's Thomas Keller sign a copy of his latest book, dive into grub cooked up by top chefs on Saturday, or tour Monterey's Scheid Vineyard with its vintners and get a cooking demo in the vines. Awesome? Totally.
Why Care?:
CFS raises money for MBA's Seafood Watch Program and Sustainable Seafood Guides, which help keep irresponsible fishing (read: water pollution, damaged habitats, and sea creature depletion) to a minimum.
We're suckers for Esalen's hot springs and blufftop views, so we'll be jumping on board Saturday's tour down the 1, esp since there'll be Benzinger organic and bi-dy wines involved.
Wanna Try:
Monterey Bay Aquarium's Cooking for Solutions; May 15-16; 866 Cannery Row, Monterey. (866-963-9645). Combo ticket, $190/opening gala (May 15, 7:30-10 pm) and cooking demonstrations (May 16, 8-11:30 am).

Cocktail Fact

If a mother clown fish dies, the father clown fish will biologically transform into a female.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters opt for an awabi (local abalone) roll rather than an unagi (eel - a declining species) roll at a sushi dinner, we'll keep 2,500 eels swimming.
