Little White Libraries...

04.20.2009

The Bite:
...never hurt anyone. Proof: The Mission's La Library, which stocks new and vintage duds that you can buy for keeps or borrow for a month. Kinda like your stylish friend's closet (chatty atmosphere and comfy couch…), if your BFF had her own line of '70s-glam-inspired dresses, jumpsuits, and jackets made outta found fabrics. Best part: Once you've borrowed and returned an item (they're cleaned in between, natch), you've got 30 days to borrow another piece (and then another and another…) equal to the price of the original. Honest.
Why Care?:
Borrowing clothes cuts back on buying, which helps keep new resources from being used up in production.
Keep an eye on your favorite pieces (ours = anything owner/designer Shaye makes): Sale prices go down each time someone borrows an item.
Wanna Try:
La Library, 380 Guerrero St. (415- 558-9841). Shaye dress, $16/rental; Shaye jeans, $10/rental.

Cocktail Fact

According to philosopher Immanuel Kant, there are absolutely no excuses for lying - one must be murdered, suffer torture, or endure any other hardship rather than lie, even if the only way to protect oneself is to lie.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters wear a borrowed item instead of buying a new one, in a year we'll keep the weight of 33 Army hybrid tanks out of landfills.
