Local Limoncello

Mellow Yellow

11.02.2009

The Bite:

They call it limoncello…otherwise known as lemonade for grown-ups. Traditionally made out of lemon rinds, alchohol, sugar, and water, Hello Cello Limoncello di Sonoma's spin on the Italian after-dinner liquor is crafted from local, CCOF-certified organic lemons, grappa (brandy) made from biodynamic grapes, and organic agave syrup. It's a classy after-dinner alt to dessert, plus, packaging the deliciousness involves bamboo (a rapidly renewable resource) caps and labels, making this booze mellow on the environment, the palette, and if you drink enough of it, everything else. Quite rightly.

Why Care?:
Hello Cello Limoncello di Sonoma reduces its overall carbon footprint by using only local, organic materials, composting by-products to create fertilizer for orchids, and using sustainably grown grapes.

We think it's stunning simply chilled, but feast your eyes on tons o' cocktail ideas, including the limoncello mojito.

Cocktail Fact

Prior to Donovan's 1960's song, the phrase "mellow yellow" appears in Ulysses, where it is refers to Mrs. Marion Bloom's buttocks.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters buy a bottle of Sonoma-made limoncello instead of the Italian stuff, we'll save enough gas to drive from SF to NYC 308 times.
