Organic Cupcakes

Object of Your Confection

06.19.2009

The Bite:
XO marks the spot - and Moonbabycakes fills it with cupcakes. This SF biz pumps out gorgeously packaged 'cake orders (with perfect candy flower flourishes) and has more than a dozen flavors to choose from, including Red Velvet, topped with perfectly unsweet cream cheese; Pumpkin Spice; and Fresh Strawberry, made with organic berries from the FPFM. They're baked with almost 100% locally sourced and organic ingredients - such as dairy from Clover Organic Farms – so stuff your face for as long as your heart desires.

Why Care?:
Cramming your maw with cupcakes made from organic ingredients cuts down pesticide pollution and keeps more cows hormone-free, decreasing the risk of hormone-fed cancers in humans.

As "creatives," we're into the fact that Moonbabycakes lets us mix and match to customize our own cakes, meaning we can have our vanilla almond cake and peanut butter frosting too.

Wanna Try:
Moonbabycakes, available by custom order and at Loving Cup Cafe, 2356 Polk St. (415-440-6900). Regular cupcakes, $32/dozen; Mini-cupcakes, $42/2 dozen.

Cocktail Fact

Birthday cakes (and cupcakes) started with the ancient Greeks, who offered round or moon-shaped honey cakes to the moon goddess Artemis.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters eat one cupcake a week made with local strawberries rather than conventional ones, in a year we'll avert the CO2 emissions generated by 736 homes annually.
