Michael Pollan Speaker Series

Pollan Season

06.08.2009

The Bite:
Allergic to food you can't pronounce? Let UCB's bestselling stud author Michael Pollan tell you why it's good to (a)choose whole foods. On tour for a series of free foodcentric talks, the In Defense of Food and The Omnivore's Dilemma author'll spread the word on the dangers of "nutritionism" (ex. drinking a glass of OJ for certain vitamins instead of eating a whole orange), and traces the foods we eat to ingredients we actually recognize (whoa, corn is in everything). It won't blow.
Why Care?:
By moving toward a diet based solely on whole foods, rather than energy-intensive packaged and processed varieties, we'll keep potentially harmful additives outta our systems and save energy.
We've been hooked on Pollan since Botany of Desire, and we'll be tackling In Defense of Food this July in our Biter Book Club.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters buy a fresh pineapple instead of packaged and preserved pineapple chips, we'll avert the CO2 caused by 18,776 roundtrips to the supermarket by car.
