Pudding Out

04.06.2009

The Bite:
Primo dessert: Wanna get some? Maximum satisfaction guaranteed at Loving Cup Cafe. Newish to Russian Hill, this tiny joint serves up rice pudding in delicious flavors like Nutella (breakfast spread of champions) and pistachio, as well as fro-yo and baked breakfast goods. LCC uses mostly local, organic ingreds like Marin’s Clover Organic milk in their yo’ and only CA-grown rice for the pudd. Flavors change daily, and you can grab ’em to go in recyclable takeout containers. Score.
Why Care?:
Locally grown food cuts back on farm-to-plate CO2, while organic milk typically has more vitamin A and E than the conventional stuff.
For a little jolt, try the ’gurt mixed with ground espresso in the 1960s Swirl Freeze.
Wanna Try:
Loving Cup Cafe, 2356 Polk St. (415-440-6900). Small rice pudding, $4.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters buy a pound of pistachio rice pudding prepared from local ingredients rather than ingredients shipped cross-country, we’ll keep the greenhouse gas produced by 1,680 round-the-world flights outta Earth’s atmosphere.
