Recreational Plugs

04.08.2009

The Bite:
Wanna experience the newest designer high-brid? Zipcar’s got the hookup - the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in its SF fleet. This new Prius is pimped out with a state-of-the-art battery and plug-in module (still enough room for a bike in the back) and lives at one of City Hall’s charging stations as part of the Green Vehicle Showcase. Zipcar members (or Zipsters…ahem) can reserve and drive it just like any other car in the fleet, and get over 100 MPG - a pretty solid buzz.
Why Care?:
Cruisin’ in a PHEV (hey, it could happen) saves almost 200 gallons of gas per year.
We opt for Zipcar’s Mini Convertible for beach jaunts (Ocean Beach doesn’t count…), but for around town, the PHEV Prius is perf.
Wanna Try:
Zipcar, 191 Second St. (866-494-7227). Occasional Driving Plan, $75/app fee and year membership; $9/weekdays per hour; $69/weekdays per day.

Cocktail Fact

A 2008 Dartmouth study detected trace amounts of cocaine on 67% of U.S. bills.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters used a plug-in vehicle instead of the gas-guzzling variety for 1 year, we’ll conserve enough gasoline to fuel over 209,000 round-trip road trips from SF to NY.

That is by far the ugliest deathtrap I've seen since the first time the "Bug" showed itself in America. It is too small for the average family and wheather you know it or not, it is no more than a deathtrap. I wouldn't own something like that because I value the safety of my family over something as dangerous as that.
