The Bite:

Ready to toss your beat-up Louboutins and never look back (cringe)? Don't jump the gun - see if Second Street's Shoe and Leather Services can breathe new life into 'em. Nicholas and Marina will get your seen-better-days shoes and schleps-a-lot bags lookin' like new for a prequoted rate. We dropped off our black leather booties (heel cap replacement/toe reinforcement), leather jacket (ripped belt loop), and leather purse (torn handle), and the whole lot was fixed in a few days for about a hundred bucks. Not rock bottom but a lot cheaper than buying new, and our stuff's back in business. Plus, its downtown digs are transit friendly, and its hours accommodate pre- and postwork drop-offs and pickups. Bull's-eye.

Wanna Try:

Shoe and Leather Services, 70 Second St. Map It. (415-564-4166). Heel cap replacement, $20; Bag restitch, $29.

Cocktail Fact

World famous Italian shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo, who could easily afford new footwear, always resoled his shoes at least four times.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters fix an old pair of shoes instead of buying a new pair, we'll keep the weight of 114 Christian Louboutins (the man, the myth, the legend...) outta landfills each year.
