Spanish Fly

03.02.2009

The Bite:
Looking for some Euro-style seduction…for your taste buds? Head to Noe Valley for the opening of Contigo ("with you") tomorrow for a little dose of Barcelonan flavor here in SF. Featuring a Catalan-inspired tapas menu, you can stuff your face with Catalan Flatbread with Rapini and Carmelized Onion, Chard and Beet Greens with Garbanzos (featuring ingredients from local outfit Mariquita Farms), and Oxtail Croquettes, all served on dishware from Sausalito's Heath Ceramics. Have a seat at a table made from salvaged wood beams from the Levi Strauss factory, and get a homegrown salad from the patio planter box (woot woot). It gets even more green props for the reclaimed white oak cabinets, dual-flush toilets, and low-VOC paint. Swoon…
Wanna Try:
Contigo, 1320 Castro St. Map It (415-285-0250). Catalan Flatbread with Rapini and Caramelized Onion, $12; Chard and Beet Greens with Garbanzos, $8; Oxtail Croquettes, $8; any three tapas, $21.

Cocktail Fact

Not so hot: The FDA says the chemicals in Spanish fly create “arousal” by essentially irritating and inflaming your genitals – and it can also lead to infections.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters opt for a pound of local greens instead of conventional ones, we’ll save about two bathtubs worth of fuel.

I wanted to let you know of a company that just opened up on Cannery Row in Monterey, CA. They brought a Pacific, boneless, skinless Sardine in Olive oil back to the area, plus they were the best Sardine I have ever had. Try them out! www.canneryrowsardineco.com
