Summer(Tini) Vacation

06.15.2009

The Bite:
School's out, and even for nonstudents that's enough reason to drink. Run free to SummerTini this weekend, a swank martini tasting/silent auction event that benefits CHEFS, a local nonprof that gets homeless folks kitchen training with top Bay Area restos. There'll also be eats emphasizing local produce and waste-free cooking (composting too, natch - but that's not on the menu). A ticket gets you bottomless 'tinis (our two favorite words?) and nosh from local-organic food slingers like The Plant Cafe Organic and Thirsty Bear. Nice break.
Why Care?:
You'll prolly be drinking this weekend anyway, so doing it while munching local (reducing shipping CO2), waste-minimizing food is great, especially since it helps SF's homeless help themselves.
We relish any opp to hang at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and loitering around the Ducca table "sampling" Spiced Potato Gnocci isn't too shabby a way to do that.
Wanna Try:
SummerTini at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts; Jun. 19, 6-9 pm; 701 Mission St. (415-487-3736). Tickets, $100 ($75 for peeps 35 and under).

Cocktail Fact

Numerous studies have shown that there is no academic benefit to year-round schooling.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters compost just a quarter of their yearly kitchen waste, we'll keep the weight of more than 100,000 full bottles of vodka out of landfills.
