Sweet Cheesus

The Bite:
There will be a third coming this weekend, dairy lovers. Petaluma's third-annual California's Artisan Cheese Festival, that is - a fromage party of biblical proportions. Saturday kicks off with informational heat: Choose from 12 seminars (we'll be stuffing our maws at Cowgirl Creamery's local cheese breakdown, and Rainbow Grocery's roundup of beer and cheese pairings) and grab an organic lunch by Petaluma Market Catering (mmm, baked French Brie wheel…). Saturday night gets fancy with a five-course meal from five local chefs. And if your arteries are still clear, hit the Artisan Cheese Marketplace on Sunday - a wineglass comes with so you can sample sauce from local vintners with your…wait for it…cheese. Holy cow.
Wanna Try:
California's Artisan Cheese Festival, 745 Baywood Dr., Petaluma. Map It (707-283-2890). Purchase tickets online. Seminar day, $130; gala dinner; $170; marketplace, $45.

Cocktail Fact

The United States is the largest producer of cheese in the world – we pump out 30% of it, followed by Germany and France.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters serve locally produced cheese instead of imported at their next party, it'll have the same CO2-reducing and fuel-saving effect as taking 265 Hummers off the road for a year.
