The Bite:
Would you wear wooden earrings? We wood, and you will too once you see Molly McGrath's this Sunday at the Mission Indie-Mart. Molly takes breaks from her architect day job (at an SF firm that builds modern prefabricated sustainable homes) to design chic, modern earrings and pendants made from reclaimed bamboo veneers. The veneers come from Teragren, a company that manufactures products from Moso bamboo, a rapidly renewable resource. Taking inspiration from both architecture and the natural environment (our favorite pair looks like a grouping of cells), Molly drafts sketches on her computer, crafts the designs with a laser cutter, then uses felt and suede from local thrift stores to add the finishing touches. Result? Wearable, eco-fabulous jewelry that we not only wood wear but do wear.
