Academy of Sciences 3rd Wednesdays

Weird Science

04.13.2009

The Bite:
Looking for a midweek geek out? The California Academy of Sciences reopened last September as one of the world's greenest buildings, and now you can stroll its (Anthony Michael) halls for free every third Wednesday of the month. Cruise the 2-acre living roof, spiral through a four-story rain forest, and befriend African penguins during daily feedings - all without spending a dime. Hughes-ly entertaining.
Why Care?:
The solar collectors on the living (plant-covered) roof paired with the water reclamation system limits the Academy's greenhouse gas emissions and helps conserve H2O.
We heart free, but you’ll def find us with the music, mingling, and a bevy of booze on Thursday Nights at the Academy (for Biters 21 and over).
Wanna Try:
The California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Dr., Golden Gate Park (415-379-8000). Free this Wednesday, 4/15. General Admission, $25/adult, $15-20/youth; Thursday Nights at the Academy, $10/ticket.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters visit the Academy of Sciences, we'll catch a glimpse of the living roof that's capturing almost 4 million gallons of rain water a year.
