SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 SF Biters recycle or repurpose their old clothing instead of tossing it, in a year we'll keep the weight of 9,066 boa constrictors out of landfills.

COCKTAIL FACT

Talk about priceless: Some kimonos can take up to a year to make and cost up to $25,000.

Boa Constrictor

The Bite

image

Trying to squeeze some style out of the wilted feather boa you got that one drunk Cirque de Soleil night? Halloween's in October, friends. Til then, entwine yourself with an accessory from Kesa Designs, a Santa Cruz-based company that repurposes vintage silk kimonos and Japanese fabrics into elegant scarves and wraps. This piecework approach produces one-of-a-kind shawls, though you do get to pick from eight basic color schemes, such as indigo and black or red and copper. Swaddle your shoulders with the wider wraps, or wrap a skinnier version (see photo) 'round your waist, beltlike...but not too tight.
