SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 Biters donate clothes and textiles for resale or refashioning instead of tossing them, in a year we'll keep the weight of 6,100 supermodels in textile waste out of landfills.

COCKTAIL FACT

In the 18th century, it was fashionable to wear fake eyebrows made from moose skin.

Divine Intervention

The Bite

image

Think it'd take a miracle to turn the dismal contents of your closet into haute couture? Nope, just a good designer. Bound to make a believer out of you, the Discarded to Divine fashion show features gorgeous gowns by designers such as Sara Shepherd (whose eco line's at Russian Hill's Eco Citizen), Jessica McClintock (of prom-dress fame), and others, all created from donated-but-unusable duds from St. Vincent de Paul that would otherwise clutter landfills. (Don't miss the burgundy stunner by the Academy of Art's Brenna Dean.) The repurposed couture will be auctioned off (benefitting St. V's), while you munch on eco-friendly food and drinks from Orchard Hotel's Daffodil and Orchard Garden's Roots. Heaven.

Wanna Try

Discarded to Divine 2008, 601 Brannan St. b/t 5th and 6th Sts. (415-977-1270). General Ticket, $45 advance, $55 door.
