SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 SF Biters opt for a handbag made from repurposed materials rather than virgin ones, we'll keep the weight of 58 farmhands out of our landfills.

COCKTAIL FACT

Woody Guthrie called the 1940 film adaptation of The Grapes of Wrath "the best cussed picture I ever seen."

The Bite

Think we left curtain couture in the Dust Bowl? Hitch your wagon to local designer Jenn Jory's one-of-a-kind Eco Girl beauts. Jenn harvests upholstery-weight fabrics ranging from silky brocades to vintage linens from flea markets, antique shops, and retro clothing stores, refashions them into bags, then adds stylish brooches, restructured jewelry, and even the occasional belt (as a handle). We're suckers for the vintage look of her crewel embroidery models (see photo). Her work is not only eye-catching, but also catches textiles before they end up in landfills, eliminating any need to extract natural resources for new materials. Nothing greatly depressing about that.
