Whether you're craving sweet or savory, brownies, biscotti, and breads are yours for the taking at Mariposa's (that's "butterfly" in Spanish) Oakland café. The café also crisps up a new variety of pizza each week, loaded with seasonal veggies from the farmers market. Those too lazy to cross the bridge - no judgment - will find its cinnamony (that's totally a word) sour cream coffee cake joining its brownie and biscotti regulars in natural food stores next month. Mariposa gets all of its ingredients from local producers, which keeps transport emissions down, and it minimizes waste with compostable tableware at the café and during production (day old bread = croutons). No eco-sting here.
