Canyon Hear Me Now?

04.03.2009

The Bite:
Think raw food deserves a bad reception? Say hello to Chaco Canyon Café. The cozy, Southwestern-looking U-District spot serves up - believe it - tasty raw foods. Experienced raw foodists and virgins alike will dig its fresh, organic, light-yet-satisfying fare like the Basil Pesto Raw Bowl - crunchy kelp noodles mixed with housemade basil-walnut pesto on top of spinach. Plus, raw uses less energy to prep and retains more nutrients than foods subjected to higher temps. CCC's no dead zone for cooked stuff, either, with vegan hot sandwiches and soups, and baked goodies, like its tangy Raspberry Tart on almond date crust. Bonus: Bring in your used fluorescent lightbulbs and nonrechargeable batteries for free recycling. That (net)works.
Wanna Try:
Chaco Canyon Café, 4757 12th Ave NE. Map It (206-522-6966). Basil Pesto Raw Bowl, $10.

Cocktail Fact

Verizon's "Can you hear me now?" guy represents a whole crew of employees who each drive 100,000 miles a year to test the reliability of the carrier's network.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters eat only raw foods for their next meal instead of cooking, we'll save almost enough energy to power two homes for a year.
