Caught with Your Plants Down

The Bite:
Embarrassed about what passes for plant life at your casa (ahem, the Tupperware in the back of the fridge)? Save face and sign up for Seattle Tilth's Container Veggie Gardening workshop - great for condo and apartment dwellers, and gardening beginners. You'll get a demo on how to grow your own potted edibles - shallow-rooted plants like herbs and salad greens tend to do best - in a small yard (read: windowsill or balcony). It'll also walk you through sustainable gardening basics (no chemical pesticides or fertilizers), maintaining healthy soil, and making sure your new green friends get the right amount of sun and water. Then stock up at ST's Edible Plant Sale in May and get started on restoring your dignity.

Cocktail Fact

The world's tiniest flowering plant is the Wolffia: 5,000 of them fit comfortably in a sewing thimble.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters switch to sustainable gardening methods for 1 year, we'll keep the weight of seven riding mowers worth of pesticides outta the environment.
