The Bite:
The idea of dressing yourself from the recycling bin seem a little alien? Invade this space: The RE Store's Haute Trash Fashion Show when it swings into Ballard, with wearables that Haute Trash and local designers have created outta wastebin contents. Past creations include a flashy, purple ensemble from Crown Royal boxes and club-ready 'fits made from old bicycle tire tubes (whips sold separately) - this year, look for Tamara Adlin's colorful halter-top-and-skirt getup made from Internet cables. (U)FO reals.
Why Care?:
You get all the pomp and pageantry of a runway show minus all the virgin materials - at least 90% of each outfit is made from used or dumpster-bound resources.
We're looking forward to the witty, laugh-worthy descrips of items from hostess Rayona Visqueen. Plus, two words: beer garden.
Wanna Try:
Haute Trash Fashion Show; Apr. 17, 8 pm; New York Fashion Academy, 5201 Ballard Ave. NW (206-297-9119). Admission, $10.

Cocktail Fact

A close encounter of the first kind is simply seeing a UFO; the third kind requires seeing an extraterrestrial along with it.

Small Changes Add Up

Watching trashy fashion strut down the runway won't save the polar bears, but it spotlights the potential of reuse.
