Farm Stand

Ferry Godmother

06.19.2009

The Bite:
Wish you could just wave a magic wand for dinner fixings? Make hunger pangs disappear (though, sadly not the dirty dishes) with a couple $5 produce bundles from the Sound Food Ferry Farm Stand - pick 'em up Wednesday afternoons starting June 24. You still do the slicing, dicing, and sautéing, but the Bainbridge Island Terminal stand will ready a varied selection of fresh ingredients - like salad greens with cherry tomatoes or braising greens with summer squash - from local farms including Butler Green Farms, Farmhouse Organics, and Leapfrog Farm. Enchanting.
Why Care?:
Shipping produce around the country creates climate-change-causing CO2 emissions during transport (and burns a lotta fuel); the stuff at the SFFFS only travels within Kitsap County to your table.
BYOB: While the kind Sound Food volunteers won't just make you carry your five bucks worth of potatoes home bare-handed, try to remember your own reusable tote.
Wanna Try:
Sound Food Ferry Farm Stand; Wednesdays, Jun. 24-Sep. 30, 4:15-6:15 pm; Bainbridge Island Terminal, 270 Olympic Dr. SE, Bainbridge Island. Email for more info.

"[My goddaughter] calls me God for short; that's cute, I taught her that." - Ellen DeGeneres

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters opt for a pound of local produce rather than stuff grown elsewhere, we'll save enough diesel fuel to fill two and a half kiddie pools.
