Bike to Work

Good Car-ma

05.13.2009

The Bite:
Is road rage your destiny? Doesn't have to be - score some points by leaving the car at home this Friday. Strap on your helmet (and, you know, get on your bike) for Starbucks Bike to Work Day, and get to riding. (Don't forget some nonspandex-y gear if you've got a big meeting.) Postwork, pedal by the Cascade Bicycle Club's after-party in Ballard - bike-powered blender smoothies, miniraces, etc. - for Seattle Summer Streets, which closes city streets to cars and opens 'em for bikers and pedestrians. It's fate.
Why Care?:
Biking or walking cuts down on some serious air pollution, since every gallon of gas we burn creates about 20 pounds of climate-change-causing CO2.
Some of us work from home but will be biking somewhere just to swing by one of the 44 SBtWD Commute Stations for free snacks, a reusable water bottle, and other schwag.
Wanna Try:
Starbucks Bike to Work Day, a Cascade Bicycle Club event; Fri., May 15. Ballard Seattle Summer Streets, 4-7 pm, 22nd Ave. between NW Market St. and Ballard Ave. NW.

Cocktail Fact

Boy George said his band's 1983 hit Karma Chameleon is about "trying to suck up to everybody."

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters bike or walk 5 miles a week instead of driving, in just 1 month we'll avert the yearly CO2 emissions of 16 cars.
