Grease Lightning

03.20.2009

The Bite:
Summer lovin's a blast, sure, but not when there's still spring skiing to be had. Now peeps in Portland can ditch their hot rods (and skip the road rage) and hitch a ride to Mt. Hood Meadows on the Grease Bus. For just ten bucks round-trip, 7 days a week (as long as 10 riders sign up), 24 folks can grab a comp Clif Bar (BYO bevs…just no booze) and load into this bamboo-floored coach, which'll give you 6 hours of mountain time. The GB runs on veggie oil from local restaurants - and unlike with biodiesel vehicles, they can dump the grease right into the bus, where it’s filtered and heated. Definitely the one that you want.
Wanna Try:
Grease Bus (617-835-5321). Reservations accepted until 5 pm the day before traveling. Round-trip ride, $10.

Cocktail Fact

The film Grease was released as Brillantina ("hair oil") in Spain because its English title translated as "fat" in Spanish.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 PNW Biters take the Grease Bus to the mountain just once rather than their own cars, we'll save enough gasoline to fill 408 kiddie pools.
