If You Can't Stand the Heat...

The Bite:
Head to A Caprice Kitchen and get outta yours – before you reach your boiling point. This cozy, light-filled, French bistro in Ballard serves up simple, fresh food. Some of the droolworthy stuff for breakfast or lunch: Souffléed Omelette stuffed with chanterelles and rich, raw cow's milk Valentina cheese; a crisp, puffed-up Baked Pancake cooked with sautéed apple (get a side of subtly sweet Hazelnut Butter); or a baguette-sandwich-and-soup combo. It also dishes a three-course, set-menu dinner Friday and Saturday nights. And nearly all ingredients are sourced locally, putting dollars in our farmers' pockets and cutting transport emissions. ACK gets organic eggs and chicken from Rickman Gulch Farm, Jerzy Boyz Farm organic apples and pears, and Camembert from Mt. Townsend Creamery. Cool.
Wanna Try:
A Caprice Kitchen, 1418 NW 70th St. Map It (206-371-2886). Souffléed Omelette, comes with roasted potatoes and baguette, $11.

Cocktail Fact

The highest temperature in Death Valley was recorded at 134 degrees in 1913.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters eat a pancake dish with two local apples rather than nonlocal ones, we'll save enough diesel gas to fill two bathtubs.
