Mother's Day Brunch

Ladies Who Brunch

04.10.2009

The Bite:
Up for a midweek mimosa? Sundays might have to do - and they will, at Cafe Flora’s annual Mother's Day Brunch. This charming veggie resto's event (which fills up quickly…hint, hint) features a three-course, prix-fixe menu that reflects its SOL (sustainable, local, organic) rep. Try superyum dishes - last year's menu had a Potato Crusted Quiche Timbale (made with cage-free eggs from local Stiebrs Farm) - and lift a kir nouveau (bubbly + spiced blackberry wine from Enumclaw’s Rockridge Orchards) to the woman who’d help you hide a body. Rich.
Why Care?:
Eating organic keeps nasty pesticides outta the environment, locally sourced food means less transport emissions, and a veggiecentric meal cuts back on mucho CO2 emissions and water use.
Last year, we nearly licked our plate of sweet, rich Caribbean French Toast Stratta. Then we remembered that's not how Mama raised us.
Wanna Try:
Mother’s Day Brunch; May 10; Cafe Flora, 2901 E. Madison St. (206-325-9100). Three-course brunch, $25/adults, $13/kids under 12 (special kids’ menu). Reservations only.

Cocktail Fact

Sexy vegetarian s'lebs include: Casey Affleck, Orlando Bloom, and Natalie Portman.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters go veggie just 1 day a week, in a year we'll avert the emissions produced by driving a car around the equator 464 times.
