The Bite:
Hey...it's your latte. Just wanted to let you know I'm over cardboard java jackets (so 2008) and wanna slip into a reusable coffee cup cozy from Portland's Flapper Girl Creations. These two-toned, dual-layer cozies - handmade from eco-friendly felt (made from recycled plastic bottles or repurposed from thrift stores) - come in three whimsical embroidered designs. (The cat-eye glasses are way hot, like me, your latte - see photo.) Plus they work better than cardboard sleeves, take up almost no space in your bag, and are hand-washable. So, uh, call me back.
Why Care?:
When you forget your reusable mug (or just don't want to lug yours around for the very occasional cup out), cardboard coffee sleeves can add up to 10 extra pounds of waste to your personal trash pile each year.
No need to retire your cozy for iced-coffee season; ours totally keeps our sweaty cup in check and our hands dry.
Wanna Try:
Flapper Girl Creations, available online or at Powell's Books, 1005 W. Burnside, Portland (800-878-7323). Coffee cozy, $12.

Cocktail Fact

Jewish singles website JDate drew negative attention in 2006 after a member left a series of voice mail messages to a woman he met on the site, demanding $50 since she didn't call him for a second date.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters opt for a reusable felt coffee sleeve every day for a week rather than a paper one, we'll keep eight trees standing.
