Pop the Question

The Bite:
Ready to commit to a piece of art other than that poster of Bret Michaels you've had since middle school? We propose a striking mandala bowl from Eye Pop Art made from scratched or warped vinyl records. Artist Christine Claringbold collects discarded LPs from friends and fans and hand-paints one side with psychedelic, floral designs in bright yellows, greens, oranges, and pinks – leaving the flip side unpainted, label intact. Next, she heats the records, molds them into flowerlike forms, and seals them (including the hole in the middle). They're functional and food safe - now our movie-night-in popcorn container of choice. (Look for recycled record rings coming soon.) Style in your house, and vinyl outta the landfill. Engaging.
Wanna Try:
Eye Pop Art, available online and at Trillium Artisans, 9119 SE Foster Rd., Portland, OR. Map It (503-775-7993). Bowl, $58.

Cocktail Fact

A NM woman this year accidentally swallowed the engagement ring her now-fiancé hid in her milk shake after her friends, who were in on the proposal plan, challenged her to a race to finish the milk shake.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters buy a bowl made out of a recycled vinyl record instead of new materials, we'll keep the weight of 29 grooms in vinyl outta landfills.
