Save Face

04.22.2009

The Bite:
Wanna maintain your face's rep, but not up for Botox? Opt for a different needle at Blue Peacock Acupuncture. BPA's facial rejuvenation treatment combines the ol' pins with Muse L'Herbal's facial masks and cleansers (with organic ingredients like almonds and lavender). It's not cheap (takes about 12 sessions for results that can last several years - with the occasional tune-up), but the price's on par with some antiaging creams (with way better results) and is a chem-free way to reduce wrinkles, increase collagen production, and even out facial tone. Lookin' good.
Why Care?:
Botox has immediate results, but it's toxic (in fact, it's the most toxic known protein and has been linked to respiratory failure), as are paraben-laden conventional face creams.
After one session, our skin looked smoother and more glowy (we went blush-free for 3 days afterward), and those little lines we've been getting from all that laughing definitely looked less noticeable.
Wanna Try:
Blue Peacock Acupuncture, available at Dr. Lucinda Mallory Messer’s naturopathic clinic, 2012 Market St., Kirkland (425-827-9770); and at Beehive Salon, 2101 N. 55th St., Ste. 120 (206-351-5922). First visit, $160/2 hours; return visit, $130/1.5 hours.

Cocktail Fact

The FDA has also approved Botox injections for the treatment of hyperhidrosis - severe sweating.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters opt for facial rejuvenation acupuncture rather than a 3-ounce jar of conventional wrinkle cream to temporarily turn back the clock, we'll keep the weight of about 13 adult leopards in nasty chems off our faces.
