Which Craft? - Gift Week

12.04.2008

The Bite:
imageTake your pick: 136 hip local artists making everything from two-headed fabric dolls to hand-sewn pasties will be working their magic at this weekend's Urban Craft Uprising fair. Witness Portland vendor Attic Journals, which recycles the ghosts of books past into wire-bound journals; or the veggie-based, paraben-free sudsers of Seattle's Estrella soaps (unfortch, the new root beer scent smells better than it tastes). Package your finds at the self-service wrapping station, stocked by Creation Station with recycled wrapping materials. The first 100 people in line (plan on getting there really early with some coffee and knitting needles) get a swag bag packed with goods from the show's crafters - last time, we got a hand-screened tank top. Wicked.
Wanna Try:
Urban Craft Uprising; Dec. 6-7, 11 am-5 pm; Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, 305 Harrison St. Map It (206-684-7200). Suggested donation, $1.

Cocktail Fact

In 2005, Dutch witches won the right to write off the cost of witchcraft lessons as a tax deduction.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters buy a bar of locally made soap instead of conventional liquid stuff, we'll avert the weight of eight Wiccans in packaging waste.
