BANG FOR THE BITE
apple

Organic lettuce toppers taste great all over your plate. (Just make sure not to overdress - a salad fashion faux pas.)

COCKTAIL FACT

Et tu, Brutelito? The Caesar salad was invented in Tijuana, Mexico.

Why should we be considered for the year-end best-dressed lists?

The Bite

Just look at our salads. While others are talking about which actress dazzled in Dolce or which socialite stunned in Stella, we're bringing you the skinny on this year's organic salad dressings - outshining the rest like they've gone outta style.

The Benefits

  • The taste. Fickle as the fashion world may be, our taste buds won't be falling out of love with these dressings anytime soon.
  • Better for your health. Biters know that the lower level of pesticide residue found in organics is just plain healthier.
  • Better for the earth. Splitting up with synthetic pesticides in favor of more natural options (like building birdhouses to take advantage of insect-eating birds) means better soil quality over time.

Personally Speaking

Jen's current fave mid-afternoon snack: just about anything (including some all-natural dog treats meant for Cricket) with Annie's Goddess dressing.

My Mom Woulda Made it from Scratch

I'm a salad purist, really.  If it can't hold its own with just olive oil and balsamic or lemon and some salt and pepper, in general, I think your salad probably sucks.  And for the most part, let's face it, bottled dressings just taste nasty.

No so, the dressings in today's tip.  Honestly. That peanut one - when put on cucumbers and grape tomatoes - will make you cry, it's so good.

And the fact that we found these dressings is a very good thing for me, since I am going to go vegan once a week for one of my New Year's Resolutions.  Since I even like bloody steaks, wish me luck.

Stay tuned for "Vegan Days" results.

Biter Comments...
I can't vouch for the other salad dressings, but I LOVE Annie's Naturals Goddess Dressing. I'm bad when it comes to snacking on salty junk food, but I actually put aside the junky stuff just so I can have some veggies with the Goddess dressing (broccoli goes very well since it really holds the dressing). Makes me crave salads if I know I can have my Goddess dressing....its even good to put on sandwiches....
My steaks must mooooo at me. I realize how gross that is, but the moooo makes it mooooch better. Blog about the vegan thing b/c I ... er... might consider it one year. My favorite salad dressing is simple: -salt -pepper -onion powder -beau monde -italian seasoning -balsamic -olive oil yummmm
Annie and Paul both have yummy stuff. If you haven't tried it Paul has come out with his own fair trade coffee as well. Yummy Yummy.
My new favorite salad dressing is, hands down, Braggs new line. They call it “Healthy and Organic” or something – there are only two, one is original flavor, the other sesame ginger. This is the ONLY store-bought salad dressing I have found that does not contain soy or canola oil. It is organic olive oil, Braggs organic, raw, apple cider vinegar, and some spices. Super simple and truly delicious. Personally, I try to steer clear of soy products in general, especially processed soy.
The quickest and most flavorful salad dressing I've come to love is just three ingredients: fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, and olive oil. Great!
