Getting Lathered Up
So the Personally Speaking in today's blog...we're not actually kidding. Even Quasimodo might attract a few ladies if he lathered up with a brush and shaved with a straight razor (well, and found a good Italian tailor).
The extra secret ingredient to this ritual, speaking of Italy? If you're ever in Florence, boys, get some lavender crema da barba from the Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. The building itself is amazing, but all of its colognes, soaps, tinctures, and salves are hand-made from local ingredients according to centuries-old formulas.
I suppose to pull it off ourselves (on our legs), we females would need a feather-duster-sized brush and a bucket of shaving cream...hm...not so sexy.

It's all relative... five years shaving huh, save more years(and your plants) by not shaving/shearing your shrubberies. Save that for your topiary obsession... your green friends will thank you for it, and you'll discover neat things your plants may do, like FLOWER... & FRUIT.
I just buy an electric shaver every 6 or 7 years. No soaps, gels or any other products involved. An hour of electricity each month for recharging the battery.
I had to do the math on this one. My boyfriend spends no more than 15 minutes a day shaving and that works out to be 90 hours or so a year, or 3.75 days per year. If he lives to be a hundred, he'll have spent one year of it shaving. Maybe he should grow a beard...
I understand the love of a close shave, but after a similar discussion with a friend I took the challenge to grow a beard for the first time in my life. It save time and resources and in all honesty I have primarily had some form of facial hair for almost 6 years now. I challenge the men to give it a month, it's quite a freeing experience.
Another benefit to the brush and soap is not having those aerosol cans that I can't recycle.
The average male spends 5 years of his life shaving?? That would be 2 hours per day, every day for 60 years!!!
I think that you may want to check your source on that statistic - you know 76% of statistics are made up on the spot...
I started using pure virgin olive oil years ago to shave with. It makes a razor last longer, feels REALLY good going on and is good for the skin! My wife is Italian so she kinda likes it too....hahaha! You can buy it by the gallon, cook with it, use it for salad dressing and so much more!
I have 3 teenage daughters that shave their legs and it is very hard to find the right thing to buy for them. They think I am harping on when I talk about the dangers in some (most) products on the market, we seem like a freaks when we share our knowledge with our kids!

Here is a tip that will probably be mistaken for bad hygiene; but ladies, my mother never let us shave our legs. She said, "if you don't start shaving your legs, you won't have to continue the chore forever." Being three rather hersuit girls, I realized that it was most important to take care of pits and eyebrows (I was Boris Karloff's daughter, according to my Grandma). My grandma took a straight razor to my unibrow when I was just twelve. Guess what? It never grew back! By the way, I have about thirteen annoying hairs on each leg, I don't even bother,unless I'm not wearing hose, pants or a long skirt. So to you young ladies, DON'T START - you won't have to cry about the pricklies later.
