BANG FOR THE BITE

Organic liqueurs aren't actually any healthier since the distilling process gets rid of pesticides in conventional alcohol, but these picks go down smooth, are easy on the planet, and are getting easier than ever to find.

COCKTAIL FACT

At 15.5 L (4 gal) per year, the average Luxembourger drinks more hard liquor than the citizens of any other country in the world (in the United States, it's 8.6 L, or 2.3 gal).

Still thirsty after last call?

The Bite

Go home...to your liquor cabinet filled with organic spirits. Check 'em out next time you're stocking your home bar, and remember: Liquor before beer, you're in the clear.

The Benefits

  • Delicious inebriation. These are some unique and tasty spirits - great for kicking it at home, pregaming, or pouring into flasks you're sneaking into the midnight screening of Rocky Horror.
  • Cheers to the planet. Every time you buy an organic liqueur, you're supporting sustainable farming practices.

Personally Speaking

Jen puts a little organic scotch in her flask and sneaks it into her saddlebag on chilly days when she's out on the range.

Wanna Try?

  • Benromach Speyside - rad, rich, malty traditional scotch ($75/750 mL).
  • Veev Liqueur - made with açai and prickly pear extract, which may lead to gentler hangovers; tastes smoother than vodka and is great with ginger ale and lime ($35/750 mL).
  • Cassis au Cognac Roland Seguin - sugary, black currant liqueur that's big in France; we mix it with a little dry champagne on the rocks ($20/50 cL).
  • Dwersteg Amaretto - sweet almond liqueur that goes great with sour mix ($18/50 cL).

Liquor, Water, Liquor, Water

I spend a lot of time in bars. While I'd venture that this has enhanced my social life, it has had a less positive effect on my wallet, and resulted in more than a few instances of morning-after regret.

So... I'm hereby instating a rule for myself - for every "unit" of alcohol (glass of wine, bottle of beer, shot of liquor) I drink, I'm drinking one glass of water. More cash and less chance for self-embarrassment  can't hurt my social life, right?

-Toshio...off to do something totally sober...

Biter Comments...
...You say "liquor before beer, you're in the clear". I thought it went: "liquor ON beer, never fear. Beer on liquor, never sicker." Now I'm really confused.
Shame on you, Ideal Bite, for promoting alcohol consumption, organic hootch or not! Promoting organic coffees and teas is fine, but NOT alcohol! Alcoholism is already a big enough problem in this country without you encouraging the consumption of its cause! This is, without a doubt, the absolute WORST idea you've had so far. For the "Ideal Bite," this idea is anything BUT ideal!
Ideal Bite isn't promoting under age drinking and last time I checked drinking alcohol is still legal. Gotta relieve the stress. So bottoms up Toshio!
