BANG FOR THE BITE
If 10,000 Biters buy a vintage costume instead of a new polyester one, we'll avoid sending the weight of 2,833 jack-o'-lanterns in plastic to landfills.
COCKTAIL FACT
Last year, more kids dressed as princesses than any other character; witches topped the list for adults, and pirates came in second in both categories.

Can you get a one-of-a-kind Halloween costume on the cheap?
The Bite
Boo-yeah. Just pick up an outfit at your local vintage store or rent a costume. Both options are less expensive than buying new, and help stabilize the world's scary-large inventory of
PVC Darth Vader helmets and pirate hooks to boo-t.
The Benefits
- Uniqueness. You're not gonna win any costume contests wearing that packaged fairy-princess outfit from the drugstore.
- Less trash. Let's face it: You usually wear a costume once and then get rid of it.
- Cheapness. Although quality vintage costumes can come at a premium, renting usually costs less than buying new.
Personally Speaking
We’ve recently become obsessed with our avatars (graphics that represent us in instant messaging). Check the
blog for our first-annual avatar costume contest.
Wanna Try?
- Buffalo Exchange - chain vintage store that becomes a chain vintage costume store just before Halloween.
- Yelp - search for used clothing stores and costume rental places in your city.
- Make Magazine, Halloween Special Edition - make awesome Halloween costumes at home, even using stuff you already own ($10).
