The Bite:
Give socially responsible investing a try.  Socially Responsible Investments (SRI) are investments that seek a triple, not just a single bottom line: they focus on generating the best return financially, environmentally and socially. (Those in the biz refer to this triple bottom line as “people, profit and planet”).
The Benefits:
  • Sleep better.  Support companies with sound environmental and social policies.
  • Make solid long-term gains even during economic downturns.  Socially screened portfolios grew 7% during 2001 and 2002 despite a 4% drop in broader professionally managed portfolios.
  • Investment variety.  Assets in socially screened portfolios climbed to $2.15 trillion in 2003 with 200 mutual funds designed for socially conscious investors.
Personally Speaking:
We took all our investments out to put into the Bite.  If that isn’t socially responsible investing, what is?
Wanna Try:

Cocktail Fact

Think SRI is new?  Think again.  In Biblical times Jewish law laid down guidelines for ethical investing.

Bang For The Bite

SRI loses an apple because currently there are no guidelines to screen companies’ long-term commitments to social responsibility, but overall, it’s a really big-bang thing to do.
