Wanna call the shots the Biter way?

The Bite

Order organic next time you belly up to the bar. Organic liquor is tasty and does the earth good, so be a big shot Biter and knock back a double.

The Benefits

  • Great taste. Celebs like Stella McCartney and critics alike are toasting the unique tastes of new organic liquors.
  • Less pollution. Organic farms emit about 60% less CO2 into the atmosphere than conventional ones.
  • Win drunk friends and influence drunk people.

Personally Speaking

After "taste-testing" Square One Vodka at our last company retreat, we learned that organic liquor does not necessarily mean gentler hangovers.

The Asian Gene

One of my friends in college did her biology thesis on the Asian gene - the gene that makes Asians turn red in the face, and become achy and naseous after just a drink or two. She tested people who were Asian, white, and half-Asian/half-white. I'm in this last category.

Going into the lab, I expected a cocktail party. Wearing labcoats, she and her assistant would serve drinks, and then she'd break out her tape recorder and ask each of us how we were doing after drink one, drink two, drink three, and so on. Later, she'd take out her magnifying glass to inspect our complexions. Was our skin as it was when we arrived, or were we redder than red?

Tragically, she just swabbed the inside of my cheek and that was that. I never got my results, but I'm pretty sure I have the gene. I mean, I can binge drink with the best of them, but unlike my white roommate back at school, I can't roll out of bed the next day, ready to start the party all over again. And, sadly (and I speak from experience), just because liquor's organic doesn't make those hangovers any better.

Biter Comments...
Who in the heck can afford organic booze!! $27.00 a bottle for the most inexpensive vodka...sounds more like Hiway Robbery than organic! If it were only a buck or two more, then maybe, but this stuff is almost 3 times the price of what I usually buy. (I am assuming that the price is for a liter bottle?) If it is for a 1.75 liter bottle, the price is still out of my price range, at least double and then some...
The high price of the organic goods can be a problem, and one that is complicated by the transportation of those goods over long distances. At that price, one might as well start distilling one's own home-brewed moonshine instead of paying almost $30 for a bottle of vodka. (Plus whatever taxes the state adds... here in PA the taxes are fairly steep.) I tend to stick with buying local products - beer and wine from local producers. It may not be organic, but it travelled less than 50 miles from the vineyard/brew kettle to my glass, and helps the local economy.
So, are we doing vegan, or are we doing local, or are we doing fair-trade? It seems like every week there's a new way to be holier-than-thou. We have a reasonably local, organic winery - $48 for a bottle of wine, and that's buying direct. Don't even think about buying it in a restaurant. And, are we doing tetra-pak or glass? Natural cork or synthetic? I think I'll just go have a dipperful of water out of the rain barrel. Sheesh.
How could you forget about Rain Vodka? It's super smooth and made from organically-grown grain in Illinois. I'm a HUGE fan and there's a bottle chilling in my freezer right now. TGIF baby - TGIF!
Ok. I cannot speak for organic liquor (Crown isn't organic, yet). HOWEVER, I give Fish Tale Organic Pale Ale two thumbs up. I'm a 3 beer girl...yeah, yeah, cheap date...and that will keep me crashed until 10am. I spent one weekend drinking only Fish Tale and holy moly...I woke up...Saturday AND Sunday...without a hang over. Yep, that's right. I didn't believe it...so I spent a few more nights drinking as much as I could to see if I could make my head hurt in the morning. No dice. I was my normal dizzy blonde self...and all my buds were so happy. Well, maybe not "happy". Anyway, Toshio, try organic beer...see if that helps keep the Bloody Mary out of your hand in the morning.
so, I do not undestand, is this a gen of the dependence on alcohol connected with blush? right? could I write about this information in my blog http://asiaweb.ru?
