Lips feel like worn leather?

The Bite:
Use eco lip balm on your next prairie rustle. While conventional balms are made with petroleum (yep, that petroleum), plant-based options are now widely available and will rescue your parched pucker lickety-split. Now ride.
The Benefits:
  • Being healthy as a horse. Researchers have linked impurities in petrolatum (a common ingredient in many lip balms) to breast cancer; hence, the EU's restrictions on its use.
  • Spur-ning oil. Once the world's petroleum reserves are gone, they're gone
Personally Speaking:
A few of us claim that we're addicted to lip balm, but we looked into it and it’s just psychological - your lips won't build up a physical dependence (well, as long as you avoid those heroin-flavored versions).

Bang For The Bite

If 10,000 Biters opt for a lip balm made of veggie oils instead of petrolatum, we’ll avert the weight of 15 cowboys in petroleum-based products.

I use Badger brand Lavender and Sweet Orange.. made with olive oil.. OMG so good and so hydrating! A must try!! Note: the stick is softer and easier to use than the tin of it, which has more wax for application purposes.
What is petrolatum? What's the difference between it and petroleum? So, the Vaseline I use for EVERYTHING is no good??
I've only received a few of your notices, but you seem to be targeting pretty frivolous consumers. Maybe you should focus more on encouraging folks to consume less in order to help the environment. That's one sure way to "be green".
i needed that today!!!! in this weather
Eco Balm for Vegan Biters: Eco Lips Bee Free. It's petroleum *and* beeswax free, a rare combo.
Burt's Bees is owned by CLOROX!! I wouldn't recommend using them at all.
Pangea Organics lip balms (I'm partial to the Italian Red Mandarin with Rose) are, without a doubt, the best product out there - both for effectiveness, and for the company's superb care for the environment and the world. These lip balms smell divine; are nice and fat and go on smooth; moisturize like crazy; and are made from organic, fair trade ingredients. http://pangeaorganics.com/pangea-organics-lipcare.html
In an issue of O a month or so ago, they talked about certain lips balms having an ingredient (this is where I wish I'd written it down) that actually strips the top layer of skin, so that it creates the effect of "needing" the lip balm to keep it protected and not feeling dried out. Hence, the addiction.
I just bought lip balm this am! Weird timing & while I was tempted by the lovely shades of the Burt's Bees, there is NO SPF!!! Lips are extra sensitive need SPF!! So I opted for my favorite tinted lip balm: Alba Botanica Terra Tints. 70% Organic AND chemical free SPF. The colors are great, although not as large a selection as Burt's Bees, but much better!! Plus, as one commenter already pointed out, Burt's Bees is owned by Clorox. Also, agree with the less consumption, but there's certain necessities, like protecting one's face & lips from sun damage. Not exactly frivolous and if one is going to wear lip balm, why not get the fun tinted organic one!!
An almost surreally positive experience with the lip balm made by this Swedish firm made me look into getting it in the United States. Apparently, the FDA wants to charge so much for approval of a lip balm that the company decided to simply make do with a world wide ranking as the number one product. I wonder if Big Oil's influence had anything to do with that? As a stop-gap, Amilab lip balm can be found online, but the supplier will be out of the country, and shipping will make it cost more. In my mind, it's worth it. Glen
