The Bite:
Used as a lotion, coconut oil can heal and repair skin, prevent blemishes and wrinkles and give the skin a youthful shine. And as a food, coconut oil is actually good for you, contrary to past beliefs!
The Benefits:
- Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which the body can eventually use to destroy lipid coated viruses such as herpes or influenza.
- It promotes optimal development of the brain and nervous system, protects against cancer and heart disease, promotes healthy bones, and is good for your skin.
- Coconut oil may aid weight loss; your body doesn't store it as fat - the liver converts it directly to energy.
Personally Speaking:
We've been using it on our skin and hair, and we are extremely happy with how easily it is absorbed. We also don't mind the faint aromatic reminder of mai tais.
Wanna Try:
Look for fresh, virgin, non-GMO, and unrefined coconut oil at your local health food store, or check out the following brands online:
- Kuumba Made - Heather's favorite.
- Spectrum Organics Coconut Oil - Jen's favorite - $6.99/14 oz.
- Tropical Traditions - a popular brand offering a variety of organic coconut oil products.
