The Bite

Get a green career in 2008. If you spend all day at work watching the clock, you might be in the wrong biz. Make your living doing something great for the planet, and your TGIF might change to TGIM.

The Benefits

  • Upping job satisfaction. We can't guarantee that you'll never come down with Monday-itis, but when you spend your 9 to 5 doing something you care about, it shows.
  • Getting in on the action. The eco market is hot - Forbes says the green industry is one of the fastest-growing job sectors, and the House even passed the Green Jobs Act last year, which authorizes $125 mil for green job training.
  • Using your talents. We know you got skillz, so put 'em to work for the earth.

Personally Speaking

Three Bite team members found their jobs at Ideal Bite through Green Dream Jobs.

A Workier Shade of Green

Want a green job?  There's always another option... start your own business.

I definitely don't recommend it for the faint of heart.  In fact, unless you are 100% devoted to the idea, and believe with all your heart that it will work, I say run away.

But if you DO have that itch that just needs to be scratched...

It's a great, green world these days, people.  If you have a good idea - take a swing. The time has never been more ripe.

Biter Comments...
I was just discussing this with a friend last night. There is a gross lack of good "green" stores around here in Maryland. A nice BIG grocery store would be so great...and not to have to travel at least 20 minutes in either direction to get there.
Rather than going out and getting a new green job (partially b/c of inertia, partially b/c I like my job & partially b/c of a growing fear that the market is about to tank and I don't want to be low man on any totem poles!); I've decided to green my already existing job! I work for a building code consulting firm and I'm working on convincing my boss to let me start a green building dept. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I convinced him once before but then he backtracked on me somewhat understandably as we are completely inundated with non-green work. We're moving offices though, which gives us much needed space to expand & hire more people which I hope will help allow me do this.
@Bec You should look into the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. To become LEED Accredited Professional you take an exam on the process of LEED building accreditation. This could be a great way of greening up your office and add a little something extra to your resume. There is more information on the Green Building Council website: http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1584
I recently quit my job as a lawyer to focus on my online organic business... it's so easy and fun and gives me more time to spend with my son! Bec - I started a green group at my company too! One thing I do is send out an email tip(s) once a month for things people can do at home & at work to be a little more green. A lot of the ideas come from Ideal Bites! This email was great though, as I haven't been super happy for a while (mainly because I am not in an environmental job) and these job links are great.
I am interested in starting my own green business, and am looking for tips, ideas, business partners or just things you would buy if they were green, but haven't been able to find.
