Dating Based on Values

So I am a huge fan of effeciency. Not just energy effeciency. I am talking like I plan my trip to the bathroom to intersect with some other errands that I have to do, like pick up the print out, check on the Cricket, and maybe even call a talkative neighbor back while I pee and the phone is on mute.

Therefore the idea of "green dating" is a cool one, in that I don't want to waste time dating someone who loves to litter, who thinks that oil dependence is a great thing, and drives a Hummer. (I actually don't care about dating a meat eater, as long as they will let me persuade them to eat free-range organic meat, and then worship me for opening their minds. :-)

However, I must confess... I have never tried a dating service.  I dipped a toe in the water and was emailing with this guy on Friendster once, but I could never close the deal.  I guess it is wildly popular these days.  BITERS -give us the goods... what is the scoop... share your stories and we will love you long time.

Off to daydream about the hot latin I will meet online who picks me up in the Prius, sporting pleather shoes and a crisp organic white button down - Jen

Biter Comments...
craigslist seems to make life somewhat easy, in allowing me to post as much or little about myself as I like, and hope for responses from those who fit my expressed preferences. But it seems girls get many more responses to an extreme compared to guys, so that is a downside from where I'm sitting. I'd be quick to jump on a free value-based dating system, if it allowed me to select environmental values as a top pick.
OK, so I just Googled [eco values dating online] and got some goodlooking matches on ecobusinesslinks.com. Check 'em out! I am, too.
Yahoo personals...I met my "soulmate" two years ago and we are still together today. Be specific about what you want, and perhaps the right person for you will be out there.
I hope this isn't considered spam, but I noticed some people signing up for some of our sites this morning, and they referenced Ideal Bite. I figured the blog entry must have caused some people to do searches that found our sites. I figured I'd make it easy, and list our 'Green' sites for everyone, since we have quite a few. If this is against the rules, please delete this post. I don't want to offend, but we're completely free, so I thought I'd let everyone know about us: http://www.Green-Passions.com, http://www.VeganPassions.com, http://www.VegetarianPassions.com, http://www.GreenPartyPassions.com, http://www.CommunityPassions.com http://www.ActivistPassions.com
Another fun site is okcupid.com. It professes to use a fancy algorithm to match you with people in your area, based on interesting questions and tests. The best part in my opinion is that it has an IM function to let you chat with the potentials. Granted, I haven't found a match there (I met the guy I'm currently dating off craigslist), but it's alot of fun and a great procrastination activity!
In Feb issue of SmartMoney Magazine they list "FarmersOnly.com as a site that features "profiles of 10,000 singles in categories ranging from organic farmers to alpaca breeders."
While I don't fault anyone for internet dating, whatever you want to do, is ok as long as no one gets hurt. However, I don't think this tip has a place on the Ideal Bite Daily Tips mailing thing. This list is supposed to be about bettering the world through Fair Trade or Environmental stuff. I don't see how this relates. I rated it a 1. I didn't know where else to put my comments. Thank you ~Eva
I too share your feeling about not wanting to date guys that don't share my "green" lifestyle. It is just seems like a waste of both our time. I looked at most of the online dating thingys and they just felt like meat markets to me. Until I found www.Zaadz.com. It's not an online dating service, it is a place where people who want to change the world go to gather in conversation and support of how to do that. I didn't go there looking to date anyone and have not yet, but what I do find is a gathering of like-minds. I have made many great friends from all over the world as a result. Who knows, one of those "friends" might end up being Mr. Right.
My life didn't allow me to meet anyone new or interesting while living in Kansas City. I was a corporate monkey from 9-6, and then coached a 12 year old girls volleyball team from 7-9. If I wasn't working out or playing volleyball after that, I was at home relaxing. So, I put an ad on Match.com. I went on a few dates, and met some fun people with similar interests. I wasn't too serious about it, never imagining I'd meet my future husband on there. However, 2 years ago this month I received an email from a gentleman in Oklahoma City (300 miles away). He was looking for something serious and I thought he was crazy. I shrugged him off, but he was persistent and before long all of my free time was spent chatting online with him or talking on the phone. He met me in KC for Valentine's Day 2004...and it has been an amazing whirlwind since then. We're getting married this April. I still can't believe how it all happened.
After I graduated from college...my life was one work day to another. I never had time to meet anyone. Plus my town is so small that everyone already knows everyone else and there was no one I was interested in dating. One night I finally got tired of watching Cartoon Network and decided to post on a few choice websites. I tried eharmony, american singles and green passions. I met a few nice guys but they really didn't have what I was looking for. (I'm pretty picky). I was about to give up when I stumbled across Tickle.com. I was going through the ads when I happened across a picture of a guy with pink hair!!! Pink hair!!! I read his profile and he seemed nice enough to have an intellectual conversation so I "winked" at him. A few weeks later (after I had forgotten about it) I received an email apologizing for the delay in response. We started talking through emails, then IMs and then we had 7 hour phone conversations. Almost 2 years later, we're engaged. The marriage is set for October. Without the assistance of the internet and dating websites, I probably would still be sitting around watching Cartoon Network.
After losing my wife early in the morning of the day the bombardment of Iraq began, my world exploded into a combination of political outrage and personal loss. One of the first pieces of news I heard was of one Iraqi who lost his wife after only being married a week. At least I had my Teresa for ten years. When my heart hungers for beauty, it leads straight into the BBW community (big beautiful women). This sentiment alone seems to mark me as a renegade among greens to this very day, but one day not long after I received a postcard from Coalition for the Headwaters with a picture which explains it better than any words: So I went to local dances and a few events farther away oriented toward that community, and for a while looked into a plethora of dating sites. eHarmony seemed too much like homework, as if it would take a month to finish entering everything. On LargeFriends I met a wonderful pagan woman whose stay in the Bay Area was a short but eventful one including some study at New College and CIS before returning to her native North Carolina. I still see her once in a while when she comes over for PantheaCon. I had been with Teresa once to a shindig called the BBW Vegas Bash. We both were involved in the chat rooms and message board related to that, and I kept on and went on my own in 2003, and every year since so far. Everyone who knows me from there knows my politics. I'm always directing them to the audio archives over at KPFA. In the Yahoo groups as well I searched, and eventually the perfect woman turned up in an unlikely place: Fresno. I've burned up an embarassing amount of petroleum with all my visits to this whimsical crafter named Kat and our many adventures over the past year and a half, but the future holds more home time, as our wedding date draws near and the Giantess is soon to be the lady of Castle Elf. We will make it official on April 22nd - EARTH DAY!
Did that post leave out the picture I was talking about? http://www.infoasis.com/~avery/forest.jpg
As some have noted, Internet dating is not really a "green" issue directly -- but indirectly, it is: two can live more efficiently than one! I tried eHarmony.com and much to my surprise met the man of my dreams. We've been married a year. One plus to a program like eHarmony is getting to focus your attention to the kind of person you are compatible with no matter where they live -- not simply the people you happen to meet in your own, smaller, circles.
