COCKTAIL FACT

Personally Speaking

Before becoming master of all things technical at Ideal Bite, Brett had a job where he spent half his time IM'ing friends and reading tech blogs. Think of the rainforest he could've saved if this tip had existed back then!

To due clickititus in my pointer finger, it is very hard to write this blog.  I am chicken pecking with my other nine fingers.  Speaking of chickens, had a Chicken Coop Consultant over last night.  I am totally going to build one.  Plus he is hot.

Off to not click anymore, I bet I saved at least 20 acres of forest while on that conference call. - Jen

Biter Comments...
I don't know about this tip. People click and then think they have done their good deed for the day. Way too passive for real change, isn't it? How many actually take things a step further and do something active? Clicking can't save the world. Keep thinking of the Gandhi quote... "be the change you want to see in the world" ... I don't think he meant we should all be clicking away on our computers. Signed, Pessimistic in Pittsburgh
I'm pretty stoked about this tip. I click The Hunger Site and related sites everyday, and try to do my shopping from them 'round the holidays, but I had no idea about the others. Anway, no one tip sent out will completely fix the world, but the idea is that each one is a little step, a bite, towards a greener tomorrow. It seems like you're concerned that people will click instead of doing other, mor hands on, activities, but I think people who are active are going to be active, while others find just clicking to be too much effort.
Dear Pessimistic, I understand how you feel. However, I've been one of those clickers for over ten years at Care2 and the Hungersite. Seems I've done Red Jellyfish as well. Consider, as Eric said, it seems minimal, but it's something. Part of it is education (and we all know there are plenty out there who haven't gotten the education yet), and this education extends to those sponsers who make their donations to the various causes based on the clicks. It's kind of like those Nielson ratings, or advertisers who ask you to mention where you saw the information to buy from them. It's putting the word out there what the interests are; the more people that participate, the more the vendors/sellers, etc will provide assistance to these causes and also get a feel for what we all want for our world. I know that at Care2's site, you get a count for how many people have clicked and even at only a penny per click (I'm just doing a guess) it still feeds a hungry child or animal, or something to help us take care of this beautiful world that we've been given. It used to be a hassle when just dial up was out there; click, walk away, come back, click again. Broadband makes it faster to get through. And occasionally, someone is inspired to do more. It's a raising awareness thing.
A couple of people have mentioned it a little before, but another great site to go to is www.thehungersite.com From there you can find links to others such as the Child Health Site and the Literacy Site. It's fab. I agree that just clicking shouldn't be used as an excuse to go about your day on a good-citizen cloud nine, and I think it does happen. However, a lot of the people who know about these sites know them because they are involved in some other way. Besides, I would rather have someone do something and feel good than not do something and feel good anyways. Doing things like this goes beyond us, so even if it doesn't benefit the giver in a way as effective as it does the person who recieves...well, I can live with that.
It’s great to see care2.com promoted on the Bite! They’re a great source for so many wonderful eco-friendly topics and have a wonderfully supportive community! Every little bit helps! I'm an avid clicker and volunteer.
Don't forget thebreastcancersite.com, one click towards free mammograms for low income women, make it your home page. Pessimistic - every action counts, small and large. AR, Va
I, too, have been going from the Hunger Site to all the others listed including the Ecology Site listed at the side of one page. I am really glad to find these other sites to click on. This kind of help is something I can do that doesn't take a lot of hassle; my only problem with these further suggested sites is figuring out what I am clicking for and which ones I have already done, since they all say "one click a day", and it looks like they overlap. Also, one of them includes the Ecology Site I already do. Gets confusing. (For those of you who think this is a cop-out, it is just another thing, easy to do, that is helping. I also sign petitions and letters online addressing concerns I have.)
Care2 is one of the largest Activist groups on are Planet, there we sign Petitions, Click to donate for free on things such as the Rainforest, Oceans, Big Cats, Gorillas, Breast Cancer, Women against Violence, we also sponsor 14 Children from Emerging countries a Month, feel free to check us out at www.care2.com you well find there are a lot of Groups that are concerned with are Planet, or if you wish you can start your own, hope to see you on care2--Philip J. Clarke. Dedicated Care2 Member and Group Owner.
It's an easy way to help in addition to whatever else you do (on it's own it's not much, but it's way better than nothing). There's way more, I've got a list at www.allhailjkno.741.com (scroll down to find the link, it doesn't seem to work if I copy and paste). BTW, apparently bulk clickers don't work.
I've got to admit, I have sort of dumped bulk clickers - can't seem to get the pages, and it takes so long. But another place to go (easy and the same idea) is Care2. They have global warming, rainforest, big cat territory, primates, pets, children, violence, breast cancer, oceans and a daily action that is useful. All these sites want us to visit their sponsers, and I, at least, believe enough people do or they wouldn't continue. There isn't a lot I can do for these causes - to much need, too little money - but this I CAN do, and will, including buying gifts etc from their site rather than the mall.
Love the rainforest site & it's sister sites! It is away for us "little people" to join together by clicking & hopefully make a difference. Every little bit helps. Also by buying off of their sites it saves even more. We need as much of the rainforest saved as possible.
many website are working please visit our and suggest us how to improve also donate your one click per day at www.kct-uk.org/click
http://www.freewebs.com/clickforcharity/index.htm
a few more clicking sites (other than the awesome hunger site + sister sites) - FreeRice.com (as many as you want per day) - FreeKibble.com (for cats or dogs - once daily)
Different for me....I sincerely wish everyone well....send it back at me okay? I'm into the whole align life with values. So you think that I'm a boomer, 60's child? I was born a few years too late for that. Born and raised on the ocean, MS in CS, BS in MS. Spent 10 yrs in FL and now in Buffalo. I'm just plain different. Way it is folks. One thing I have to say....LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!! Thanx Jake. btw...anybody want a bunch of left over girl scout craft stuff let me know....lots of day-glo book covers and stuff, wall paper, 1500+ straws to make St. Bridges Cross's, paint, velcro, glue, felt, pipe cleaners, paint brushes, rulers, stensels, crayons, chalk, misc. containers, paper..plastic..and bunches of containers and holders. Bottom line is that I was a serious GS leader for several years and the stuff that I have is a great basis for ... being creative...simply that! Trust me...there's nothing like a car load of kids that have granted you the privilege of carrying the check book and providing their transportation.
I love to read your bites. It's very interesting to go through it. http://www.TheClickDepot.com
Here is a site that you can click as much as you want in one day, and have fun while doing it: www.triviaforcharity.com Great questions, and you can pick the group you donate to!
